For years, I worked without a net. Or, rather, without a contract. And I fell a couple of times. Ouch. Now, despite the fact that I’m not really in love with the process of getting contracts written, edited, and signed, I recognize how important they are. Contracts are your friends. For you the client and for us the creative people. This podcast is about the basics of working with contracts and what should be in them and what probably should not. Clients: don’t ask for too much of your creative folks, especially freelancers who are not holding a bank account full of your money and your risk is low. And creatives, if you don’t like how a contract smells, and the client will not budge, walk away. I’ve done it and I’m glad I did. All anecdotes in this podcast are about previous clients, not current clients. Except for the website job for the client who I was talking to at 1 PM on the day I recorded this. You know who you are.
